Floor Plan Explanation

Over the last two years, Housing Services has worked to make available floor plans and individual diagrams. It is our hope that these diagrams will serve as a valuable reference for Georgetown University undergraduate students, especially during Housing Selection.

In Spring 2003, we published diagrams of the residence hall floors, including diagrams of the complex for campus apartments.

In August 2003, we began to publish diagrams of individual rooms. The diagrams show architectural square footage of the rooms (note: diagrams do not show built-in furniture, sinks or other fixed items, and the square footages noted do not take into account such items).

Included in the first set of room drawings we published were New South, Harbin, Village C East and West, Kennedy, Reynolds and McCarthy.

During the 2003-04 academic year, we will endeavor to publish more diagrams of campus residences. Our next priority will be the apartment complexes. The remaining residence halls, LXR, Darnall and Copley, will be published last. It is our hope that we can finish all room drawings by the time of Housing Selection. However, due to the number and complexity of the drawings, we can make no guarantees.

We have made diagrams available in two different file types.

Each type has benefits.

DWF files: DWF files work best when viewed with Internet Explorer version 4 and above. Most versions of Netscape and Mozilla browsers will not display the DWF files. Viewing the DWF files in your browser require the Autodesk Design Review plugin (download here). The DWF plugin will only work with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home Edition, or Windows 2000 (SP4).

The DWF files will allow you to zoom in and out, and to pan around the drawing. You will be able to view the drawings in better detail than you would with the GIF files. Right-click on the drawing to toggle between panning and zooming.
GIF files: You can access GIF files from any web browser, and don't require a special plugin. Each room on the GIF floorplan is linked to a page showing the details of the room/apartment. Click on any room, and a new window will come up, displaying the physical characteristics and furnishings of the room/apartment.

While the floor plan is available for public viewing, the linked details pages are available only to GU Students with a valid NetID login.

To print either DWF or GIF files, we recommend that you use landscape orientation. Drawings which are longer might not fit completely on a letter-sized piece of paper
