Nevils Information

Nevils Hall

Located on the corner of 36th and N streets, two blocks outside the Main Campus gates, the Nevils apartment complex served as Georgetown University Hospital from 1900 to the early 1930s. Named after former University President W. Coleman Nevils, S.J., the building contains mostly four, five, and six-person apartments with full kitchens and one or two full baths. These apartments are particularly popular with upperclass students because of their spaciousness and unique design.

Nevils is part of the area known as East Campus, and shares an outdoor courtyard with adjoining LXR (Loyola/Xavier/Ryder) Hall and the Walsh classroom building.

General Information
  • Nevils is comprised of four sections: Nordhoff, Kober, Riggs, and Lisner. Each Nevils apartment number is preceded by one of these names.
  • Four person apartments have two bedrooms and one bathroom located on a floor above the living area and kitchen. Five person apartments have two bedrooms, one of which is larger or features a loft to accommodate a third roommate. Six person apartments have three bedrooms and two baths. Typically, one bedroom and one bathroom ( sometimes a half-bathroom without a shower) are on the entry-level, while two bedrooms and a full bath are on the second level. The upstairs bathroom usually contains double sinks, two showers, and a separate room for the toilet.
  • Beds in Nevils apartments may or may not be bunkable. Rooms with non-bunkable beds are furnished with under bed drawers for storage. In rooms with bunkable beds, dressers are provided. The desks have drawers and a desktop hutch. Closets tend to be large, with ample overhead storage space.
  • Some apartments have platform lofts, which allow for more floor space and provide a sleeping area for one person. Some bedrooms also have a study alcove which provides a secluded space for a desk or bed.
  • The living rooms are furnished with a sofa or love seat, one or two arm chairs, one or two end tables, a dining table and chairs. Some apartments have a shelf unit, although it is not a standard piece in every apartment. The kitchens vary in size, but all include an electrical range, double sink with disposal, spacious cabinets and drawers, and full size refrigerator with freezer.
  • Size varies greatly among apartments in Nevils. While some apartments are the largest on campus, others are less generously configured. There are five apartments that can accommodate a person in a wheelchair. Nevils residents have easy access to the LXR computer lab, since the two buildings are connected.
  • HoyaNet cable service is available for a small activation and monthly service fee. A cable-ready television set is required.
  • Rooms are wired with one data connection per student, giving students access to the local area network and to the Internet.
  • The Residence Hall Office (RHO) which serves Nevils is located in nearby LXR Hall. The RHO handles package delivery, lockouts and room check-in for LXR and Nevils residents.
